The management of domestic waste can significantly benefit localities and contribute to socio-economic development, thus promoting the implementation of advanced solutions for Quang Tri Green.
Creating a green Quang Tri and promoting sustainable development.
Quang Tri province plans 19 landfills, incinerators, 3 factories, and treatment zones for domestic waste management from 2020 to 2030.
The province is implementing a comprehensive domestic waste collection and treatment system, with urban areas reaching over 90% and rural areas reaching 60%. All cities, districts, towns, and administrative units have hygienic landfills and invest in domestic waste incinerators.
The province has implemented specific programs and action plans based on national policies to achieve socio-economic development. These include a vision for 2050 regarding the collection and treatment of domestic waste, waste separation at the source, and improvements in the quality of domestic solid waste treatment systems, as well as plastic.
Mass organisations have implemented effective models to combat plastic waste on Con Co Island. These models include limiting the use of plastic bags and other packaging materials. Mass organisations have launched various models to collect, treat, recycle, and limit plastic waste. These models have partly reduced plastic waste, but investment resources remain limited.
The province organises annual reviews of these models to learn from experience and motivate associations and unions to respond successfully and actively. By sharing experiences and motivating associations and unions, the province aims to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainable practices.
Localities are actively seeking funding, encouraging businesses to input recycling, and piloting waste treatment projects. GRAB Food Import-Export Trading Production Company Limited proposed separating plastic and microbial waste, while the Vietnam Department of Seas and Islands implemented an ocean plastic waste reduction project in nine localities, including Quang Tri.
The national target program for building new rural areas requires specific environmental criteria for communes to meet advanced rural standards. Gradually developing awareness and responsibility in waste collection, house, garden, and product collection is crucial for ensuring environmental safety and hygiene.
Quang Tri plans to invest in waste treatment areas with advanced technology, aiming to recycle and treat domestic waste into organic sources for fertiliser production and energy recovery. The project, set to operate in 2025, will collect and recycle over 90% of plastic waste at supermarkets and shopping centres.
The province aims to reduce landfilling of domestic waste to less than 30% by 2030, focusing on treating waste in appropriate treatment zones with appropriate technology and prioritising recycling and energy recovery in localities.
Regarding plastic waste, the province will continue to propagate to officials, civil servants, public employees and workers in agencies, units and social organisations, residential communities and businesses about the anti-waste movement, plastic waste, limiting use and discharge into the environment. Encourage the use of products with eco-friendly materials.
