Agenda: “Smart waste management: Opportunities for the urban region of Central Vietnam”

Key studies, Dr. Pham Hung Tien, Deputy Country Director of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, said that in Vietnam, urban growth is happening very fast, causing waste to grow larger, and the problem of waste management is rising which faces many challenges and limitations, especially in small cities, including Hue. “The conference aims to create a forum to exchange and share cognitive, and innovative solutions, as well as build partnerships in solving the challenge of waste management in urban areas. We will also conduct many training courses on how to create many livelihood models for people, strengthen the development of green transport, smart cities, and apply circular economy ... ".

At the agenda, professionals and managers also shared many presentations and reports on the status of garbage collection and segregation in Hue City from representatives of the Environmental and Public Works Joint Stock Company. Prof. Dr. Tran Anh Tuan, Faculty of Environment (University of Science, Hue University) also gave a presentation on “segregation of waste at source: opportunities, challenges and some recommendations for Vietnamese provinces/Cities Nam", The sharing article showed how to choose an appropriate waste separation model at source, strengthen and maintain effective communication programs, disseminate and propagate the law on waste classification at source, etc.

At the conference, the representative of A Chau Environmental Co., Ltd also shared about "Waste co-treatment solution". Specifically, the solution of waste co-treatment in cement kilns for inorganic solid wastes after sorting; bulky solid waste from households; plastic has low recycling value, etc. After pre-treatment, waste ensures standards become raw materials and fuel for cement plants. This is one of the optimal solutions to the problem of no landfilling for wastes with heat generation and low recycling value.
